 Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Cyndi Lauper’s first successful single released on November 6th 1983. The song and video have been described as a feminist’s anthem. This song is very catchy and is still performed often during Lauper’s concerts. It has been covered numerous times.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Cover by Miley Cyrus

I have to admit…I hate this cover. Not just because I don’t like Miley Cyrus but she took away the themes and pieces that make this song the 80’s. I love 80’s music and the fact that Cyrus tried, keyword tried, to make it more modern did not give the song justice.

I Think We’re Alone Now

Tiffany’s version of this song made it reach # 1 in many countries. That’s right, this song wasn’t originally hers (like I had thought for years) it was actually first recorded by Tommy James & the Shondells. Tiffany’s version was released on October 30, 1987 as a single. She had performed this song many times in malls across the US.

Okay, so I decided to do something new. On Thursdays and Fridays I will now be posting things that I miss or have been reminiscing about for a while. They will be called Throw Back Thursdays and Flashback Fridays. Thursdays will feature music and/or videos while Fridays will feature television/cartoon shows.

Escapade by Janet Jackson; this song was released in 1989 as s single from the album Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814. I absolutely love this song. It’s just a great song to dance to, it’s really catchy, and its very simple. Plus the music video is pretty good because it’s a one take carnival scene. I actually think this song is a mall song seeing as it’s about having a good time on a Friday night without having to worry about the rules.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) by Whitney Huston; this is the first single off of Houston’s second album, Whitney, released in 1987. The song is filled with heavy dance beats. The music video has a lot of bright colors, which is what the 80’s consisted of. This song proves Houston’s vocal talent and range and is a song that is played often at 80’s themed parties. Plus it’s very catchy.
