Day 10: One Quote That Describes Your Life Right Now

{March 14, 2011}   Random 10 Day Challenge: Day 9

Day 9: Two Movies You Absolutely Love

1. Clue: The main reason I watch this movie is because of Tim Curry. He basically drives this movie with all of his crazy antics. The best scene is at the end when he is retelling the entire story by acting it out using all of the guests as props. Sure there are times when the movie moves slowly and the lines are dull but if you like to play the board game and you like Tim Curry, then I’m sure you’ll like this movie.

Editorial Reveiw: Undoubtedly the first movie in history to have played in theaters with three different endings (depending on which theater you attended), Clue is a silly whodunit based on the familiar board game featuring Colonel Mustard, Mrs. Peacock, and all the other usual suspects. A broadly comic cast play the sundry suspects gathered in a mansion to solve a murder, knowing that one of their numbers is the culprit. Michael McKean, Eileen Brennan, and Tim Curry are the best of the bunch, and the film is as lightweight an experience as a round of the game itself. Directed by Jonathan Lynn (My Cousin Vinny). — Tom Keogh

2.  Beauty Shop: I watched this movie after I saw Queen Latifah in Barbershop 2. I’ve heard of Queen Latifah and I saw her in a couple of episodes of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air but I didn’t think much of her. This movie will definitely have you in stitches.

Editorial Review: With Queen Latifah holding court over a cast of sassy females, Beauty Shop continues the Barbershop franchise in entertaining style. Reprising her role from Barbershop 2: Back in Business, Latifah plays Gina the big-booty stylist, now on her own (she’s a widow) and moving from Chicago to Atlanta, where she gets sick of her flamboyantly bitchy boss (played by… Kevin Bacon?), inherits her two best clients (Andie MacDowell and Mena Suvari) and her popular formula for “hair crack” conditioner, and opens her own styling shop with a $30,000 loan and a rainbow coalition of hairdressers played by Golden Brooks, Sherri Shepherd, Alfre Woodard and Alicia Silverstone. While it lacks the frank, sharply observant racial humor of Barbershop, this easygoing comedy moves along at an agreeable pace, with a supporting cast of beauty-shop customers (and a love interest, played by Djimon Hounsou) who play off Queen Latifah’s effortless appeal with energy to spare. — Jeff Shannon

Day 8: Three favorite Cartoon Characters

1. Pikachu from Pokemon: It has got to be at level 100 by now. And it hasn’t died yet. Plus I love that he can understand what Ash is saying even though he can’t speak English.

2. Sailor Senshi from Sailor Moon: Okay I know it three cartoon characters and the Sailor Senshi (Sailor Scouts in english) are a group but they are my favorite. If I had to choose a favorite out of them it would be a tie between Sailor Neptune and the Starlights.

3. Raven from Teen Titans: Come on, who doesn’t like anti-social people who speak in a monotone and looks down on things like fun. She’s hilarious.

Day 7: Four Songs That Describe Your Life Right Now

*Celine Dion is pretty much one of the few artists I listen to right now. So all of the selections are from her.

1. One Heart by Celine Dion: I listen to this song numerous times everyday. It describes my life right now because I believe that if I love what I’m doing I can be successful.

Chorus: If you got one heart you are followin’
One dream keeps you wondering
Love lights your way through the night
One wish keeps you tryin’
What’s your silver lining
Loves lights your way through the night

2. I’m Alive by Celine Dion: I used this song to help me get through my friend’s suicide four years ago and whenever I listen to it I feel so blessed to be alive and to be very fortunate.

Chorus: When you call on me
When I hear you breathe
I get wings to fly
I feel that I’m alive

3. That’s The Way it Is by Celine Dion: There are times when I go back and forth in believing that love really does exist. This song helps to pull me back in believing that it does exist in different ways. shapes, and forms.

Chorus: When you want it the most there’s no easy way out
When you’re ready to go and your heart’s left in doubt
Don’t give up on your faith
Love comes to those who believe it
And that’s the way it is

4. Taking Chances by Celine Dion: I use this song for motivation for all of my hobbies and passions. Whenever I believe that I can’t do something or I question why I bother I just have to remember to take a chance.

Chorus: But what do you say to taking chances,
What do you say to jumping off the edge?
Never knowing if there’s solid ground below
Or hand to hold, or hell to pay,
What do you say,
What do you say?

Day 6: Five Things You Can Eat Everyday

1. Grapes: I looooove grapes. They are just so sweet and juicy. Although I love the sour TNT grapes the most.

2. Pretzels: I love the salt. Plus it’s so much better with mustard.

3. Tea: I know it’s not necessarily food but I still ingest it the same. My favorites are Half and Half Tea and Lemonade, Green Tea, and Sweet Arizona Tea.

4. Potatoes: Any kind of potato I will eat (except for sweet potatoes). I don’t know why, but I just love the vegetable.

5. Cheese and Crackers: I love cheese. If I could I would eat it by itself. But having crackers along with it makes it taste better.

Day 5: Six of Your Favorite Books

1. Harry Potter Series: J.K. Rowling brought the idea of witches and wizards trying to live in secrecy among non-magical folk a.k.a muggles while a Dark Lord gains strength and power. Who wouldn’t love this book series? It has everything courage, drama, and even comedy.

2. Nantucket Series: Denis Hunter has shown that love can be found in different places. This book series is my favorite because each story is different but they also seem realistic and in my eyes each man is a hero.

3. Chicken Soup for the Soul Series: It’s a book about stories and or poems submitted by different people. And there are many different books for many different situations. It’s as real as real can get.

4. A Bride for a Bit: It’s technically four stories in one book. And each story revolves around one of four sisters. Each sister has a problem with a man in town and eventually, of course, the fall in love while fixing up the town. It’s just an interesting and a new take on a romance novel.

Summary from Misreading an order for bridles, a New England farmer sends his four sisters-in-law as mail-order brides to Lickwind, Wyoming. When the four women step off the train, astonishment turns to mayhem as the men of the town suddenly spruce up and make time for courting. Since James Collingswood – still without tack for his horses – can’t afford train tickets to send the women back, they’ll have to stay. But what future is there in Lickwind for: Matty, the sociable sister who irritates James’ very soul with her unending friendliness to the eager men of Lickwind. Corrine, the mom-to-be still so pained over her young husband’s death that she barely knows Luke Collingswood is alive. Bess, who insists that the town must have a church, reform the brothel women, and straighten up the saloon keeper, Gideon Rikers. Bertie, who can outperform any man she ever meets…until the mysterious Thomas Hardin becomes her personal protection agency. Under such absurd circumstances, the sisters will certainly find laughter in Lickwind…but will they also find love? One thing’s for sure – the town will never be the same again!

5. The Pastor’s Wife: This book is hilarious. A black women vying for the attention of the local black pastor who is scolded constantly by his three black aunts while trying to prepare for the towns upcoming celebration. It will easily make you smile as you read it.

Summary from Most men barely survive one mother, but Terrance Ellis has three — his aunts. His grandmother Essie’s sisters — Eva, Dorothy Mae, and Mamie — lovingly raised him after Essie died in a tragic accident. They made sure that troubled young Terrance got on the right path and made something of his life. And now that he’s all grown up and the rising pastor of Houston’s Lily Grove church, the endlessly argumentative sisters agree on one thing: Terrance needs to find a wife. And not just any wife — but the right young woman to stand beside him as First Lady of Lily Grove at the fast-approaching one-hundredth-year Christmas service.

Humble and handsome, Terrance is focused on preaching more than dating and has kindly fended off the advances of more than a few perfectly available ladies. So why, of all women, is outrageous, flirtatious Savannah McKinney drawing him in? Seeing Terrance falling under her seductive spell has got his aunts frantically matchmaking since time is running out and gossip is flying. Who will be the pastor’s wife? Only heaven knows for sure…and before he finds her, some surprising and dramatic revelations are in store for Terrance, his congregation, and the three aunts who love him most in the world.

6. Hazelwood High Series: All three books are connected by certain events, car crash, suicide, abuse, and sexual assault. The story of the friends in these books just make me glad that I have such strong friendships with people in my life.

Day 4: Seven People Who Inspire You, and Why?

1. Celine Dion: She started professionally singing when she was twelve and starting on March 15th she will return to Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada for a three-year residency. She has produced more than 30 albums (a combined total of English and French albums). She is the best-selling female artist in the world. She has three children and is able to take care of them while being there for her fans. What else do I need to say?

2. Denise Hunter: She is my all time favorite fiction writer. Her first book was published two years after she wrote it and since then she has been publishing books non-stop. Recently she wrapped up the Nantucket series and has started on Big Sky Love series. I would love to have a fiction book published one day and I look to her as my writing muse.

3. J. K. Rowling: The author of the Harry Potter series. I honestly thought she was a boy when I read her name/initials the first time. When I found out she was a girl I was ecstatic. It seems like these days people attach women to romance novels and poetry. J.K. Rowling is one of the highest paid females in the world.

4. Classical Composers (a.k.a Mozart and Beethoven): I love playing the piano and these two are a few of the composers I listen to often. They sometimes make me wish I were a piano prodigy but then again that would mean I would be traveling and performing a lot so it also makes me glad where I am now. Because of them composing at young ages I started to compose as well (and it was also a vital part to my Senior Exhibit). So far I have three pieces finished.

5. Ellen DeGeneres: She was the first women to openly state that she was gay on national television. Her career could have easily ended there but with so much support and love from her fans she now has her own popular talk show called The Ellen DeGeneres show a.k.a Ellen. And now she has her own successful talk show where she will talk about anything and everything. I watch her show as often as I can and I really enjoy the games ‘Cut the Cord’ and ‘Know or Go’.

6. Emma Watson: She is the female star of Harry Potter. She is beautiful and fun to watch as Hermione. She is now attending school in the US and is still acting and appearing in movies. She is basically pulling a double life and she’s doing with well without a hint of scandals or malicious gossip.

7. Liz Eschen: She is, what I call, my “and” teacher because there are so many names that I have for her. She was my creative writing teacher, and my piano teacher, and my chorus teacher, and my voice teacher, and a co-teacher for the drama club, and my mentor. Currently she is helping me with my poetry book that I’m planning on self publishing. She always puts others before her and is always smiling. She’s helping me achieve my dream and she always lends an ear when I need to talk to someone.

Day 3: Eight Places You Want To Visit

1. Vienna, Austria: I was supposed to to go to Vienna for my J-Term class but the trip got canceled. I would have been able to sing in the acoustic perfect church of St. Stephens, visited Mozart’s house, seen where they filmed the Sound of Music, and I would have been able to cite see by myself. Plus, it would have been my first trip out of the country. The perfect place for a Classical music nut like me.

2. Oxford University: I want to see the “Great Hall”. That’s basically the only reason.

3. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Hello, where else would you be able to buy HP paraphernalia like Chocolate Frogs, broomsticks, and butter beer?

4. Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada:  Two Words – Celine Dion. ‘Nuff said.

5. New Zealand: Like Australia but with less poisons insects. Plus they have zorbs and Vegemite. YUM!

6. Tokyo, Japan: Hello, Sailor Moon originated here. Plus I loooooooove anime and manga. Their soda is good as well.

7. F.A.O Schawrtz: I must play on the giant piano that is inside.

8. Baton Rouge, Louisiana: My birthplace. I would love to see it.

Day 2: Nine Things You Can’t Live Without

1. My Family: Who would be able to function without their family?

2. My Friends: For the past couple of years I have been questioning who my real friend were. Those few who have made a huge difference in my life and/or stayed in my life are people I would love to be in-touch with for many, many years.

3. ‘S’ necklaces: I currently have three ‘S’ necklaces and I love them so much. I’m thinking of starting a collection. I would love to have an ‘S’ necklace made from a Scrabble piece.

4. Television Show DVD Box Sets: I’m obsessed with TV Show box sets. It’s less of a hassle to try to find episodes online. I currently have LOST Seasons 1-6, The Facts of Life Season 3, Friends Seasons 3-5, Sailor Moon Season 3, and 7th Heaven Season 1.

5. Mp3 player: I love music. I take my mp3 player with me everywhere. The music I upload onto it has heavy beats so most cases you’ll see me dancing in my seat.

6. Green clothing: My wardrobe is mostly made up of green clothes. I have blacks, whites, browns, and teal as well but green is a majority. I think I’d be lost if they didn’t make clothes in that color.

7. Pokemon paraphernalia: Come on, who doesn’t love Pokemon? After I started to attend college I became very nostalgic and Pokemon was one of the first few things I reminisced about. You’d understand if you are a 90’s kid. I like to go back and play with my Pokemon games, and look at my trading cards. Plus I play all the old pokemon games on my computer as often as possible.

8. Stress Star: Some people use stress balls but I use a stress star. I love stars and I get stressed a lot so I figured a combination of the two would work well for me.

9. Cell Phone: The only thing I do on my cell phone now is check my e-mail and text my sisters when I’m not near them. I could pretty much go without it but I keep it in case of emergencies.

Day 1: Ten Things You Wanted/Want To Be When You’re Older

Things I Wanted to Be (~Ages 4-13)

1. Optometrist: When I was younger I would always tell my family members to not rub their eyes when they were itchy because they would turn pinker. Plus it would help move the irritant and/or bacteria around in their eye. I would also refuse to have someone pour water in my eye to have them flush something out. I preferred to just keep my eyes open for as long as I could before blinking so that my tears would remove the irritant.

2. Doctor: I mainly wanted to be a doctor because I learned they got paid a lot at their job. But then I found out that you had to go to medical school after college and it could take many years. I didn’t plan on staying in school that long so I ditched the idea.

3. Hogwarts Student: When Harry Potter first came out I loved the idea of going to school where you could learn magic, ride on broomsticks, and have an owl as a pet. It seemed like a cool world. I was very upset when I realized I wouldn’t get a Hogwarts letter in the mail when I turned 11.

4. Pokemon Trainer: Come on, who wouldn’t want to be a Pokemon trainer. Everyone kept saying I would only leave the house when I turned 18. But for Pokemon, you left when you were ten. Plus you were able to travel all over the world and get to ride on the backs of different monsters in the air and on the sea.  It was just a cool idea.

5. Teacher: For the longest time I wanted to be a teacher. I think in my mind-set back then, I only wanted to be a teacher so I could tell people what to do and they would have had to listen to me. I wanted to be an art teacher because they’re crazy and fun-loving.

Things I Want to Be (Ages 13-)

6. Teacher (Music/Piano/English): English was the easiest class for me as I was growing up. Whenever it came to projects or papers where I could work creativity I would always get high marks. I specifically like Creative Writing classes. I have a deep passion for music and I’ve been surrounded by music for as long as I can remember. I love music theory. I started playing the piano in my junior year and now I can’t get enough of it. I’m currently working on the requirements to obtain a Certificate for Piano Teaching from the college I’m attending.

I want to be a teacher because I would like to make a difference in someone’s life. I wouldn’t even mind if it is only one person I change. I want to give back.

7. Author: Ever since my senior year of high school I knew I wanted to be an author. I want to write books and get them published no matter how long it takes. I’m currently working on a poetry book that I’ll be self-publishing..

8. Actress: So many people have told me that me and my sisters should have our own sitcom or they know we will make it onto tv one day. My sisters and I have already envisioned our show to be a cross between ‘Sister, Sister’ and ‘Friends’.

9. Musician: Music is a huge part of my life. I play the piano, the clarinet, and I sing. Many people have told me and my sisters that we should be a band like the Jackson 5. We’re thinking of naming ourselves, if we do make a band, either J4 o Jsisters4.

10. Wife/Mother: Who wouldn’t want to be a wife/mother? Isn’t that what every women wants to be? To me that’s the ultimate job. I would love to bring a life into this world (of course after I’m married and have a stable job).
